Effective Challenge
AI governance literacy for directors. Built to the standard APRA now expects.
A half-day that leaves you able to interrogate AI risk at board level, not nod at it. Assessment-backed, and run by practitioners who build the systems rather than sell the models.

Why now
On 30 April 2026, APRA told every bank, insurer and super trustee in the country that most boards cannot yet provide effective challenge on AI risk, its own term for the standard it now expects. It named a testable expectation and warned directors against waving through the vendor's slide deck. APRA, 30 April 2026
Days later, ASIC's Commissioner made the accountability side explicit: directors cannot delegate or shirk responsibility for AI and cyber failures. “I didn't know the algorithm did that” is no longer a defence. ASIC open letter 26-092MR, 8 May 2026
What you get
A half day that leaves you able to interrogate AI risk at board level, not nod at it. You finish with a Statement of AI Governance Literacy, dated and ready for the board pack, mapped to the four areas APRA named.
Governance and accountability
Where AI decision rights sit, who owns the risk, and how the board holds it.
AI-specific information security
The security questions that probabilistic systems raise and conventional controls miss.
Supplier and concentration risk
Dependence on a small number of model and infrastructure providers, and what it exposes.
Assurance for probabilistic systems
How you gain assurance over a system that does not give the same answer twice.
The session closes with a live “effective challenge” exercise: the assessed component, where you put the questions to a real AI risk scenario.
Who it's for
Primary
Directors of APRA-regulated entities: banks, insurers, and superannuation trustees now held to a published, testable standard.
Also
Directors more broadly, including AFSL holders and FAR-covered boards, who want to meet the same bar before it reaches them.
Independent of the vendors
Most AI board education is run by the people selling the AI. We build systems. We don't sell the models you're being told to interrogate.
APRA flagged directors leaning on vendor presentations instead of examining the risk. Independent education is the answer to that.
